About us

Malik Wilson is the founder of Takoma. He has worked in the editing, publishing, and ghostwriting world for more than 20 years. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he  is currently a Visiting Faculty Fellow at the University of Maryland, College Park. He also serves on the Board of the Maryland Association of Historic District Commissions. 

Emelie Rutherford is Editor-at-Large for Takoma. She began her career as a journalist at The Boston Globe and worked in journalism for nearly 20 years, including stints at The Wall Street Journal and Defense Daily. She has been an English Teacher for more than 10 years and writes curriculum for DCPS. She is also a Smithsonian American Art Museum Education Fellow.

Maria Fusco is the Gallery Place Fellow for Takoma and is the Margaret Wing Dodge Chair of Conversation and Chief Conservator at the George Washington University Textile Museum. She has worked at the Los Angeles County Museum and the Smithsonian African Art Museum and is the recipient of several fellowships, including an Andrew Mellon Foundation grant.
